Guide Dog Pup, Indi
Guide Dog pup Indi arrived in Tasmania in July 2018 from New Zealand with her brother Isaac. Living in the north of the state just out of the city, Indi is enjoying making friends with the other animals that share the land she is currently calling home. A gorgeous, golden girl who loves to make friends, we’re excited to see how Indi progresses over the next 18 months!
Good luck, Indi!
I have settled into my new home in the North very well. I’m making friends with the other pets in the household too, which includes another dog who I follow and play with, cat, a horse and some sheep. I notice the difference in the open fresh clean air where I am, compared to the noisy bustling sounds of the city. I have been learning all the basic skills around the grounds of my home but then this follows into the city where I am needing to concentrate even more.
Being a golden colour, people comment on how pretty I look because of my very dark eyes and nose, but looks aren’t everything to be a successful Guide Dog! I am a calm puppy, so I listen to my Puppy Raiser but, where there is a wonderful scent, I just can’t help putting my nose to it. I have some other little nuances that we are trying to improve on and I am working on these really hard. BUT how happy was my Puppy Raiser when I walked the escalators recently like a pro? Top marks to me!
We have a group of pups and their Puppy Raisers/Boarders that meet up during each month at different venues. It is with our mentor group and it’s a social get together, where us pups need to learn not to seek out food bits on the floor when at cafes, also to be well behaved when in the group and often we hear discussions and questions about us. It is a very happy time for us all.
I had my first trip to the beach and absolutely loved every minute! The big wide open sands, the lapping waves at my feet and just running with joy and then…that whistle that means recall, sometimes for a treat. I never know, but I return eagerly just in case.
I will keep you in touch with my training as the months go by.
