Guide Dogs Tasmania recently celebrated our 2020 Guide Dog Graduation Ceremony. Thanks to the generous support of the community, we had seven beautiful dogs graduating today.
This year was a very special celebration. It was testimony to the hard work, commitment and dedication of the Guide Dogs Services staff and volunteers during 2020. Despite COVID-19 impacting many areas, Guide Dogs Tasmania was able to adapt and be proactive, so that the training of our dogs could continue and produce the class of 2020. We also celebrated our first Dog Assisted Therapy graduate, Grady, who is joining KITES, the children’s centre in Bellerive.
As well as being a celebration for clients and dogs graduating, our Puppy Development Program volunteers – who spend up to 18 months caring for the pups in their home before they go on to their formal training – were also recognised for the vital role they play in preparing the puppies for their future work.
