Tasmanians can now turn their 10 cent container refunds into life-changing support, with Guide Dogs Tasmania announced as the new statewide Major Donation Partner for Recycle Rewards.
Until 31 May 2026, Tasmanians will be able to donate the refunds from eligible drink containers to Guide Dogs Tasmania at Recycle Rewards refund points across the state, helping fund vital services for people who are blind or have low vision.
The partnership has a campaign goal of $10,000, with every donated bottle, can and carton contributing directly to mobility training, therapy programs and the preparation of future guide and assistance dogs.
Guide Dogs Tasmania CEO Anna Presser said the partnership provides an easy, everyday way for Tasmanians to make a meaningful difference. “We’re incredibly proud to be part of the Recycle Rewards program following its launch here in Tasmania less than 12 months ago,” Ms Presser said. “With Recycle Rewards, Tasmanians can support environmental sustainability while helping empower people who are blind or have low vision.”
As Major Donation Partner, Guide Dogs Tasmania will be featured on reverse vending machine touchscreens across the Recycle Rewards network, making it easy for users to choose to donate their container refunds directly to the charity.
Ms Presser also said the campaign comes at a significant milestone for the organisation. “In 2028, we will celebrate 70 years of supporting Tasmanians with vision impairment – a milestone made possible only through the generosity and belief of our community,” she said.
Scheme Coordinator TasRecycle CEO Ken Roughley said, “Tasmanians are very generous supporters of local charities and community causes through Recycle Rewards. Donating your containers may feel like a small act, but collectively it has the power to transform lives.”
Network Operator TOMRA Cleanaway General Manager Tasmania Corey Wingard said the partnership highlights the social impact of Recycle Rewards alongside its environmental benefits. “By donating drink containers through Recycle Rewards network of refund points, Tasmanian’s are supporting the delivery of vital services for people who are blind or have low vision– and doing their bit for the environment at the same time.”
Recycle Rewards provides a 10 cent refund for most drink containers between 150ml and 3L, which can be kept or donated to more than 620 registered donation partners statewide.
